KAWAIINEKU Hat by RoseSagae KAWAIINEKU Hat by RoseSagae
So I went to a Con, right. And there were so many Dealers' tables with the CUTEST fleece hats I'd ever seen!! I bought a few that I had trouble resisting and, being an amateur seamstress, flipped them inside out thinking "these can't be that hard to make..."

Sure enough, they looked EASY PEASY. So I took the few that I had, combined them all taking my favorite parts about each and came up with this one...

I have a hat fetish. I currently make hats by the dozens to wear to work (see my current {and in much need of an update} ID). I have a whole area of my closet full of wacky hats that I may only wear once a year... but I LOOOOVE hats!!

Doubled up ear flaps to make this hat actually USABLE to keep you warm in the winter (none of the others really covered your ears!).

Obviously, this is just a preliminary made out of random fleece I happened to have so that I could test out my new pattern and make some tips for myself as I sewed x) What do you guys think? Does it look okay?

I mean, once I'm happy with it, I can try playing with different ear designs and possibly appliques, trying to add on markings and eyes, etc. ;)

Fleece is 50% off at JoAnn's this week, so I stocked up on all the colors I'd need... at least to make fursona hats for moi and 2 of my sisters ;D

Any suggestions or brainstorming ideas (i.e. how to make ears stand up, etc.) would be awesome as well as your opinions on...

1. Add tassels to the bottom of the ear flaps so it can be tied under your chin? Make that optional?
2. Add a Tail likeness in the back - yea or nay (too dorky? xD)
3. Any other sewers or crafters have other ideas about how to make different types of ears? I'm all ears (hyuk hyuk)
4. How much would you pay for a basic, solid colored animal hat? How much for a customized one? :o
5. If I were to make a few to sell of popular animes/characters, which would be the best sellers? Some ideas I had were Pikachu, Mudkip, Luna/Artemis (Sailor Moon), etc. etc.?

Thanks, lovlies!

(yes, the model is me... lawl)

FUN!!! OMG. These are so cute.

I think tassels on the ear flaps would be cute, but agree that a tail would be a little much x) They would be way cute with appliqued faces or markings.

It would be cool if you could make some for Con! lol. Imagine people wearing something you made around xD

You can make some too, with me and Shannay and we can sell them en masse! I think you should come next year - it was totally fun - and there were a lot of Video Game things there rather than just anime!

ooh fleece hats! I think I would like to pay $15 for a commissioned hat, but since you're a friend I'd be willing to pay up to $25

Awesome! Yeah, I was thinking regular ones (like pre-made ones) could go for $15 or so... and customized ones for a little more depending on the detail and extras that I might have to buy for it!

OMG if you made a Yoshi hat it would be the most awesome thing ever. I'd totally wear a pikachu or poliwhirl one too. I'm all about cute hats. I love wearing my Carebear and Mickey ones with the ears, so this is right up my ally!

Did you use a pattern for this or did you just make it up from taking the others apart? I wonder if we could team up and make a bunch to sell at next year's con?

Ear flap tassels might be cute. But I'd leave them optional. I'd say "nay" on the tails though.

Yoshi would probably be way easy to make. In fact, I'm surprised I didn't see one made already! One person made all of the Mario Mushrooms and those were way cute xD I figured Pikachu would be easyish - especially adding red circles to the ear flaps!

And I just kind of made up my own pattern x)

I'm sure between the two of us we could make a ton of them to sell xD Only thing about selling is that there's a fee to buy a table in the Artist's Alley for like...$50. I mean, we could sell commissions and prints there too, and team up with more artists to share the table with, but that's a lot of work xD I'd say we make a few and wear one with a sign pinned to it that says "I'm selling hats, stop me if you want one".

Or we could even sell some to one of the booths and let them re-sell and mark them up? I dunno xD

Ha ha - I totally meant "Yoshi" as in my fursona. XD Yoshi the dinosaur might be hard with that big bubble nose.

$50 fee? Holy crap. I like the sign idea XD

I think Yoshi the dinosaur would be do-able. You could make just a little bubble for the nose.. and eyes and red spikes - it could be really hoi!

Yeah, we wouldn't make much of a profit for a $50 fee unless we paired up with other artists to share the table. And even then, one of us would probably have to sit there the whole time - which would stink!

I wouldn't want to spend the whole time sitting! It would be way more fun to just carry them with us!

There were a TON of cute ones there x) And most all the ones I saw were made out of fleece - it's easier too, since you don't have to finish the edges!

Ear flaps are a yes. Tail is a no. I think it would look funny with a tail. I have one that I bought at Mega Con in Feb.
